Scandinavian Food

It is perhaps by now no surprise that Hua Hin is something of a favourite destination for Scandinavians. This picture is confirmed not least by the large number of Swedish restaurants in town. Hence, should you be of Swedish origin, there is no need to pack your suitcase with mashed potato powder, lingonberry jam or meatballs — you will find these delicacies at the below Swedish restaurants.

iHuaHin.com recommends:

  • Sweden Restaurant — with its long history, this restaurant has become something of a meeting point for Swedish people in Hua Hin. Lasse and his Thai wife and staff do their utmost to ensure Swedes in Hua Hin don’t need to miss home too much. You will find this popular restaurant at Poolsuk Road, diagonally opposite the Bazaar.

  • Mårtensson’s Taverna — just a couple of metres away from the above restaurant is another oasis of Scandinavian food, serving both meat and fish steak platters as well as fried camenbert with cloudberry jam. On the starters menu, there are “Toast Skagen” and lobster soup. The restaurant also does traditional Thai dishes, especially from the north-eastern Isaan area. If you plan on inviting some friends for Scandinavian dinner, a handy catering service is being offered. Overall, the prices are normal — though cheap by Swedish standards.

  • Ericsson’s Wärdshus — located just a block away from the Night Market, at Amnuaysin Road. In addition to a Swedish restaurant, you will here also find a small guesthouse. This restaurant is a popular place for Swedish people to meet when it comes to hockey and football events as well as when they want to be sure to get a large portion of Scandinavian food.

  • Eva’s krog — this is the least well-known Swedish restaurant in Hua Hin. If you did not know who the chef was, you would surely believe your grandmother had opened a restaurant in town — the reason is that the dishes taste as if they were prepared to perfection with fresh butter and cream. Hence, it is worth the effort trying to get into Petchkasem Road’s tiny Soi 39, south of Klai Kangwon Palace, to get the best mashed potatoes with meatballs, lingonberry jam and brown sauce in town.

  • Restaurant Little Denmark — not far from the fishing pier, at the beginning of Naresdamri Road, you will find this small restaurant which also accommodates a guesthouse with six rooms on the second floor. From the restaurant’s terrace there is a beautiful sea view. At Little Denmark, you can enjoy Danish and French as well as Thai dishes. The chef’s speciality is a whiskey and brandy steak flambé with a special sauce.
