Royal Hua Hin Golf Club, which is Thailand’s oldest golf course, was opened as early as the 1920s. As indicated in the name, the course has a royal connotation, having been created during the reign of King Rama VI. The par-72 course was designed by A.O. Robins. From some holes, there are stunning views of the Thai gulf — in particular the 18th hole. Altogether, the 18 holes measure 6,655 yards. The greens are relatively small but offer, as compensation, good putting conditions.
The golf course is situated in the middle of Hua Hin city, just over some hundred meters from the famous train station. Included within the facilities are a golf shop, a driving range, putting and chipping greens as well as a restaurant. The course is surrounded by rather dense jungle and there are stories of ball-loving monkeys suddenly having emerged as unexpected hurdles to a low score. There has been some criticism as to insufficient amount of grass on parts of the fairways.
During weekdays, the green fee is 1,200 baht, whereas the price is a few hundred baht higher on weekends and public holidays. Clubs, carts and experienced caddies can be hired. The caddy fee is 220 baht and a cart is 660 baht. We would especially like to recommend Royal Hua Hin Golf Club during low season, since the course gets ample irrigation from the rainfall and thus is in splendid condition. At the same time, the green fee is low — both in absolute and relative terms. Moreover, the location of the course could hardly be better.
