Below you will find such activities we have chosen to characterize as “other”. Among these activities we would like to highlight the excellent fishing opportunities that Hua Hin provides — daytime as well as night-time. Should you like to move your body during you stay, there is a jogging club as well as an association for bicycle fanatics.
Bicycling
Exploring Hua Hin on a bike is an exciting and nice experience. There is actually a local bicycle club; to join should you be a keen biker. The club is called the “Hua Cha Hash Pedalers”. If you become a member, you will be introduced to a lot of different tracks. If you are on vacation in Hua Hin and would be interested in renting a mountain bike, you can contact Sea Hill Mountain Biking at www.seahillmtb.com. Are you instead planning to stay longer periods, you might want to buy your own bike. If so, no problems! Along Petchkasem Road, there are a lot of different stores offering bikes. Not to be nagging, but be careful in the traffic when getting around. Many of the fellow road-users don’t pay much attention to the cyclists. Also be aware of dogs — they sometimes tend to behave quite unpredictably.
Fishing
Hua Hin offers great fishing opportunities. That is evidently one of the reasons why the city can provide its visitors with such top-notch seafood restaurants (of which more can be read in our Restaurant Guide). A couple of years ago, it was not really that easy to get out on the ocean. Today, however, numerousoperators offer fishing trips with Hua Hin as the starting point. You don’t need to bring any equipment, which is normally provided by the operator. If you choose to go fishing on the ocean, you will likely be able to catch a snapper or two, a few squids or why not — not very likely though — a ray.
Many of the operators offer trips that combine swimming, island visits and fishing — a good option for a family excursion. The price for such a trip varies, but normally is somewhere between 1,500 and 2,000 baht per person. Should you be interested in collecting more information about the trips, a good idea is to go online. One of the operators arranging ocean trips is Mermaid Cruises that can be visited at www.huahincruises.com.
Should you specifically be looking for squid fishing, dedicated night tours are arranged by some operators. If you night time observe the ocean from the coast line of Hua Hin, you will be able to see a lot of green light bobbing on the waves. These lights are lamps on the fishing boats. Hua Hin Watersports, www.huahinwatersports.com, is one of the operators organising night-fishing trips.
Around Hua Hin — approximately 5 kilometres west of the city to be more specific — there is a company offering freshwater fishing. In two small, but rather deep, ponds you can enjoy yourself trying to catch a catfish or a carp —some of which are rather sizeable. You can visit the company’s homepage at www.huahinfishing.com.
Four-Wheelers
Renting a Four-Wheeler to go around can be done at the Khao Takiab bay. The operator arranging the activities provides both the vehicles, helmets and any necessary instructions. The track is a true challenge! One thing to think about is not to wear shorts when driving. Longer pants are thus recommended.
Jogging
If you are keen on cross-country running you know that few things beat the feeling of lightness and exhaustion when just coming back from some kilometres of jogging. Should you be interested in going jogging in Hua Hin, there are lots of different tracks and roads to choose among. In case you don’t like to run in the forest, of course there is always the possibility of running alongthe beach. With a distance of some seven kilometres, downtown Hua Hin to Khao Takiabis a viable option. As is the case with the bicycling association, Hua Hin also has a club for keen cross-country runners. The club is called the “Hua Hin Hash House Harriers” and has its homepage at www.huahin-hhh.com. Anyone can become a member.
