An hour with car south of Hua Hin lies Khao Sam Roi Yot — a National Park that covers approximately 100 square kilometres of land. Khao Sam Roi Yot was Thailand’s first marine National Park. Here you will find mangrove swamps, caves, non-crowded beaches, limestone mountains, dolphins and rare bird and reptile species. King Chulalongkorn’s (Rama V) magnificent pavilion is to be found in one of the caves — the Phraya Nakhorn cave. Other caves worth visiting are Tham Kaew, which is located about two kilometres from Bang Pu, and the Tham Sai cave some nine kilometres from the park’s main office (click here for pictures of the caves). When visiting the caves, please be aware the terrain is rather tough and steep. Proper shoes are thus needed. We truly recommend visiting the caves hiring an experienced tourist guide.
Should you be interested in capturing the panoramic scenery, we would recommend you to visit the top of Khao Daeng, located close to the main office. Here you will also find detailed information on Khao Sam Roi Yot. Yet another attraction in the park area is Had Sam Phraya located approximately 3.5 kilometres north of the office. The site boasts a beautiful piece of pristine beach with pine trees.
Visiting and experiencing Khao Sam Roi Yot is truly a must! It is possible to camp or to stay overnight in a bungalow. This may indeed be the best way of getting to see the morning light shedding on the amazing pavilion in the Phraya Nakhorn cave.
