Kaeng Krachan, Thailand’s largest National Park, covers an area of approximately 3,000 square kilometres and is located north west of Hua Hin. It stretches along the Thai border with Myanmar (Burma). The vegetation in the park is absolutely fabulous, and some of the healthiest tropical forests in Thailand are to be found here. You will bump into a large number of waterfalls when exploring the area. One of these is Pala-U (for more details, see below). Kaeng Krachan has an amazing wildlife and the park accommodates exotic animals such as elephants and tigers — but also bears. Allegedly, there are also some crocodiles residing within the park. Bird-watchers have observed over 250 different bird species in Kaeng Krachan. The park is also host to a number of Karen villages that can be visited. Karen belongs to Thailand’s indigenous peoples, with a great history to learn more about.
Kaeng Krachan is still fairly unknown to tourists. The best way to get there is most likely by renting a car. It is rather tricky getting there by public bus. The best way to experience the park is under guidance of a professional tourist guide — something we would like to recommend you to get. Exploring Kaeng Krachan with a guide definitely will increase the likeliness of getting to spot all those magnificent animals and plants.
