Beaches in Hua Hin

With a five-kilometre long and white sandy beach and dark blue water, Hua Hin is the type of holiday resort that makes you think of paradise. Kitesurfing, windsurfing, beach volley, horse riding, exotic fruits and luxurious restaurants all this is what you will find on the magnificent beaches of Hua Hin.

Hua Hin is the oldest holiday resort in Thailand. This picturesque fishing village has been a hideaway from major cities and stress ever since the 1920s. One of the main reasons has been — and still is — that Hua Hin provides a first class beach, which stretches numerous miles along the city. With clean, white sand, dark blue, shallow water and a constant breeze, the beach in Hua Hin is idyllic enough to be called paradise-like. At the same time, Hua Hin does not have the kind of tropical climate you find on e.g. Phuket or Koh Samui — which on the other hand is a great benefit in terms of precipitation.

The beach in Hua Hin is in fact more accurately a number of different beaches. From north to the south, the first part of the beach stretches from the newly opened Sheraton Hua Hin, past the resorts Dusit and Anantara, until the Queen’s public park, which is generally referred to as “19 rai”. The most crowded part of the beach (“Hua Hin beach”), starts in the middle between the Hilton and the Sofitel resorts and continues past the Marriott and the Hyatt Regency resorts, all the way to the Khao Takiab mountain — a total length of approximately six kilometres. The Khao Takiab beach is by some people pointed out as the best part of Hua Hin’s beach. Since this part of the beach is less crowded than the beach in front of Hilton/Sofitel, you will get a significant part of it for yourself. Between Khao Takiab and Khao Tao, there is a five-kilometre long beach located in the military’s area. Nevertheless, at Suan Son (Hua Hin Soi 99), anyone can take a swim. Sai Noi, a small paradise-like beach which is a must to visit, marks the end of Hua Hin’s beaches. Here you will find the Queen’s private part of the beach, where Her Majesty has an extraordinary excursion palace, called Tam-Nack.

Even though the beach in general is excellent, we specifically would like to recommend the part just south of the Marriott, with amazing white sand, clear water and a sea bed completely free from stones. In addition to being a fantastic place to sunbath, this part of the beach supplies a wide variety of activities and sports, such as kitesurfing, Jet Ski and banana boats. Furthermore, in exchange for small money, it is possible to follow the ocean’s swells on the back of one of the slow pace horses that walks along the beach. You can also participate in football or beach volley, which are often played on many parts of the beach. With a constant fresh breeze, the beaches of Hua Hin are also suitable for windsurfing. If you are interested in renting a sun chair, such are available at many places along the beach, especially on the part of the beach that starts in between the Hilton and the Sofitel.

Finally, what would a fantastic beach in Thailand be without its charming vendors? The good thing about the vendors in Hua Hin is that they are not obstinate in the same way as in many other holiday resorts. Instead, they are rather observant and sensitive when it comes to listening to the demands of their potential customers. You will find most kinds of refreshments on the beach, including food, soft drinks, fruits and sweets. Many different restaurants and bars are spread out over the beaches of Hua Hin — in fact, many of the most delicious restaurants of the holiday resort are located just at the beach (read more in our Restaurant Guide).
